Six months. SIX. That means she’s only six months away from being a year - I can’t believe how fast it’s going by. Lately, I find myself hugging her a little tighter and staring at her a little longer because I feel like she’s going to be a teenager in the blink of an eye. My little, squishy baby girl is starting to feel so solid and she’s so long! I can’t believe she was ever small enough to curl up on my chest.
She’s so curious about everything. She still loves to be held but I think it’s because she knows it’s the best way to get around and get a good look at her surroundings.
She’s much better at sitting up this month but I still like to keep a couple of stuffed animals or a pillow behind her just in case. They also help her to pull herself back up of she does topple over. She actually prefers standing to sitting these days - lately, I’ll try and sit her down and she’ll fight me by keeping her legs straight.
She’s getting much better at grabbing and holding things. Much to her left-handed father’s disappointment, I think our baby girl is right-handed. We’ve reached the stage where anything dangerous needs to be out of her grasp. Guess I really need to start thinking about baby proofing soon.
See that look of horror on her face? She still hates being on her tummy and immediately tries to rollover when we put her down. I have a feeling she might skip crawling and just start walking. She does manage to get around though. I’ll put her on the playmat, walk away for a second and when I come back, she’s a few feet away from her mat.
I’m positive that Charlie is going to be a huge goofball like her parents. She loves to smile and laugh - oh, that laugh. Last night, she was cracking up at me while I was making funny noises at her. I can’t describe how wonderful it feels to makes your child laugh. She also does this cute squealing sound when she wants to get your attention. It almost sounds like a forced laugh. Her “talking” is pretty funny too - it basically consists of “da da da da da da da da…” and gurgling.
Conor pointed out to me yesterday that he thinks Charlie prefers to be the peek-ah-boo-er and not the peek-ah-boo-ee. I think he’s right:
She was being so silly! She’d pull the blanket over her head, wait a second, then push it off and start laughing. This game lasted for about a minute before she tried eating the blanket.
I just love this girl so much. You hear that when you see your baby for the first time, you’ll feel love you’ve never felt before. What they don’t tell you is how much that love grows every single day. I know it sounds cheesy but it’s true. I can’t believe how insanely happy I am to be her mother.
